Hackers Dump Ashley Madison Account Details Online
10 GB worth of data from adult dating site, Ashley Madison, was dumped on the dark web using an Onion address which is only accessible through a Tor browser. Account details, including names, addresses and phone numbers of the social networking site were exposed.
This news is a follow up on a previous attack where hackers calling themselves the Impact Team, demanded that Avid Life Media (which owns Ashley Madison and its partner site Established Men) take down these two websites.
Ashley Madison – Adult Dating Site Data Breach
Ashley Madison has about 37 million users, although names listed by users may be false, there are other details such as addresses that may be legitimate.
Avid Life Media released a statement stating investigations of the attack are still ongoing.
“We have now learned that the individual or individuals responsible for this attack claim to have released more of the stolen data. We are actively monitoring and investigating this situation to determine the validity of any information posted online and will continue to devote significant resources to this effort.” – Full statement
We wrote about the AdultFriendFinder dating website that was hacked. A couple of months after, AM followed suit. Biderman, CEO of Avid life Media, has declined to discuss further details of their investigation, but has characterized the process as ongoing and fast-moving. He mentions though that the incident may have been done by somebody who, at least at one instance, had legitimate access to their company networks — perhaps a former employee or contractor.
