eLearnSecurity at GISEC 2016

DUBAI – eLearnSecurity recently participated in the Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference (GISEC) 2016 at the Dubai World Trade Center and had a great time during the 3-day event. GISEC gathers IT Security professionals and enthusiasts and offers exhibits and talks on the current cyber security landscape.

First day of the event started with the Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security, Lt-General Dhani Khalfan Tamim’s inauguration of the Future Technology Week.

IMG_2310FTW (Future Technology Week) is DWTC’s new umbrella identity collecting GISEC, the IoTX (the Internet of Things Expo), The Big Data Show and Gulf Enterprise Mobility Exhibition &Conference (GEMEC).

The event included IT competitions divided into three days:

Day 1:The Hive“, a ‘Start Up Showdown of the Century’, where the most dedicated and driven young entrepreneurs come to pitch their startup concepts set to solve today’s greatest technology challenges.

Day 2: The live “Hackathon” brought to the FTW in association with Microsoft, featured around 40 developers, designers and coders pitching and developing a new smart software of the future.

Day 3: “Capture The Flag” a competition sponsored by OffensiveBits, where the cyber security enthusiasts take part in various challenges to find the hidden ‘flag’ across a range of categories covering multiple levels of difficulty including reverse engineering, network security, cryptography, web security, digital forensics and and others. The first team to submit the keys, get more points and win the competition were some talented enthusiasts from Russia, second place went to the team from BDO Tech Advisory Services and the team taking the coming fourth were students from Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology.

Aside from the exhibits and competitions, GISEC also included various talks and networking discussions on global threats to the government and commercial services. This was an informative and interesting event that included many talks and exchange of thoughts on the role of security in today’s cyber zone. We are definitely looking forward to the next year’s event!
